As for sober spaces, youth spaces, QPOC and LGBTQ resources: Yeah, we’ve got those, too. There is no “gayborhood,” but we do have Fourth Street – and a half-dozen gay/queer bars to check out. Our last one closed in 2013, but that doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of spaces for queer women. And generally, the community is vibrant, busy, and outspoken.īut there’s a few of things you should know. In 2017, Austin’s first LGBTQ Quality of Life Advisory Commission was created to help City Council better realize and address the needs of the city’s LGBTQ population. Whether you want to nurse local beers on a laid-back patio or join a serious karaoke party, these are six of the best gay bars and clubs in Austin, Texas. This city, and the queer, trans, and QPOC communities who call it home, work hard to keep Austin separate from the anti-LGBTQ agendas of many of the state’s high-profile politicians. Gay friendly establishments and parties are fun, however it seems like all the shirtless jogging and pool boys don’t go out.Let me tell you right now: Austin is a great place for queers – despite the whole Texas thing. If you’re classy you don’t wanna end up there. Boys are not buff as in LA, they are healthy muscle which is so much nicer.Īs it’s a young hipster city - I was told gay bars are clubs are absolutely not cool. Better don’t wear speedos (sadly students still wear long shorts). The water is refreshing, you will need it after hanging out with all the hot boys. There’s not much to do in the downtown in daytime, better spend a day at the Barton Spring Pool. Next time I visit, I’m totally bringing my sneakers and shorts (no tee) and joining them. I’ve never seen sooo many hot boys running shirtless.

The heat has another amazing perk - everybody is jogging shirtless (seriously 100% of the time). Make sure you book a hotel with a swimming pool open 24/7 as you will need it after the night out (best thing ever!). Don’t be surprised that most of the guys you meet are 5-10 years younger than you. Generally it’s a super young city with a median age of 31 - basically a student city. Hardly any rednecks and more hipsters than cowboys. Austin is nothing you would expect from Texas.
